New Boom in House Sales: The Market is already up by a third this year.

A new property bonanza is under way as house sales showed a record-breaking start to the year, figures revealed yesterday.

Sales soared by more than a third and prices rose five per cent during the first three months, forcing the average value of a three bedroom semi close to £200,000.

And the number of properties sold for more than £1 million nearly doubled ­ the equivalent of more than 10 a day, according t government figures.

Now property economists say the momentum could fuel another house-sale boom this year. And that is welcome news for home owners bombarded with dire warnings of an impending housing crash.

A total of 218,770 properties were sold in England and Wales during the three months to the end of March 37.5 per cent more than during the same period…
